AI is hungry...

Massive data growth is fueling a new kind of workforce

Hey,

Welcome to Green Jobs Rising!

Did you know that one query in ChatGPT uses nearly 10 times the energy of a typical Google search, or about the same energy as keeping a 5W LED bulb on for an hour? Generating an AI image uses about as much energy as charging your smartphone.

Training one AI language model was found to produce as much CO₂ as the entire lifetime of five gas-powered cars, and use as much water as a small country.

Even if we generate enough power, our aging grid is increasingly unable to transmit it where it’s needed.

If this trajectory continues, experts warn we could be staring down rolling blackouts and serious infrastructure failures.

That’s why some companies are racing to build green data centers, designed for efficiency, and sustainability.

Morocco is ambitiously going green and big. They’re building a 500 MW renewable-powered data centre.

Morocco's 500 MW design is larger than standard facilities.

To put it in context: Africa’s total data centre capacity is estimated at 450 MW, Morocco’s project would increase Africa’s total data centre capacity by more than 100%.

Why does this matter?
Morocco’s large-scale solar and wind efforts have already generated over 30,000 jobs.

And this is no exception new jobs are expected to open up across construction, to operations and maintenance.

As a professional aiming to get into the green economy, now’s the time to skill up.

With details on this project still unfolding, stay tuned to job boards and tender announcements, and right here, where we’ll keep covering every new development as it happens.

Opportunity often arrives before the headlines do.

Data is the new oil, African data must stay in Africa.
The battle for the future is the battle for data.
The evolution or revolution of AI depends on the quantity or massification of digital data.
