Everyone is talking about going green, cutting carbon emissions, and moving toward zero-emission transport, but what does that mean on the ground?

Meet Tom Courtright, a researcher and consultant working on transportation, e-mobility, and sustainable urbanism across East Africa. E-mobility is the use of electricity to power the transport infrastructure as an alternative to fossil fuels. This electricity is preferably from renewable energy sources such as hydro, geothermal, wind and solar to minimise overall emissions. Based in Nairobi, Tom is often in Kampala and Dar es Salaam, diving deep into the world of boda bodas (motorcycle taxis) and electrification.

As an Energy & Electric Mobility Consultant at Energy 4 Impact, Tom is all about making sense of e-mobility and moto-taxis across the continent, so much so that he’s earned the nickname "the boda boda guy." His work ranges from policy recommendations to business model development and emissions analysis, helping to shape the future of transport in Africa.

If you’re interested in where e-mobility is headed, Tom is someone to follow. He brings a mix of hands-on experience and solid data, making his insights valuable for anyone, whether you're in policy, a startup, or just curious about how transport is evolving.
