Somalia joins the race to sustainability

Somalia is making big moves in green energy! The government is looking for contractors to build a 12 MW solar power plant and a 36 MWh battery storage system in Berbera, a port city in the northeast. The project also includes installing 13.5 km of power lines to connect the electricity to the grid.

Set to be completed in just 15 months, the project is part of the Somali Electricity Sector Recovery Project, backed by the World Bank.

Why does this matter?

Once the tender is awarded, the developer will be responsible for designing, supplying, installing, testing, and commissioning the facility, as well as constructing the transmission lines. But beyond the technical aspects, this project is a game-changer for job seekers.

Yes, you read that right! This initiative is set to create employment opportunities, not just in Somalia but across the African continent. With Somalia increasingly investing in renewable energy, there’s a growing demand for skilled professionals in solar energy, infrastructure, and sustainable development.

Keep your eyes peeled!

As soon as the tender process wraps up, expect to see job listings popping up, think construction, installation, operations and maintenance, security, and administration, among others. The African green economy is booming, and this could be your ticket to an exciting new career. Ride the wave - it might just be your next big break!
