What happens when you take one of the biggest EV batteries, drive it to the middle of nowhere, and charge it using nothing but the power of the sun? Sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie, right? Greg Cress made it happen.
As the Automotive & eMobility Lead at Accenture South Africa, Greg isn’t just talking about the future of electric transport, he’s out there proving what’s possible. From charging the Mercedes-Benz EQG G580 at an off-grid solar-powered station to breaking down the real challenges of expanding EV infrastructure, he’s showing the world that clean, fast, and efficient charging isn’t just a dream; it’s already here.
Greg doesn’t just do theory, he also takes action. He’s tested some of the most advanced EVs at ultra-fast, solar-powered charging stations, pushing the limits of what’s possible. The result? A 116kWh battery charged from 14% to 90% in no time, all without touching the traditional power grid. And that’s just one of the many ways he’s proving that renewable energy and EVs are a perfect match.
But it’s not all just plugging in cars and watching numbers go up. Greg also tackles the big questions: How do we scale EV charging? How do we make it profitable? How do we ensure that South Africa keeps up with the EV boom? He even charged his own Volvo EX30 off a mobile solar station, just to see how far we can push sustainable mobility.
If you’re into electric cars and renewable energy or just love seeing remarkable innovations in action, Greg is your guy. He breaks down the latest in eMobility, shares hands-on experiences, and keeps you ahead of the curve.
