Q&A with Comfort Oluwaseyi Oye
Comfort Oluwaseyi Oye is a PV solar technician intern at Uwana Energy, a solar energy company that offers solar solutions on credit to consumers facing daily power outages. They help customers find and finance great solar products by negotiating pricing, warranties, payment plans, and managing the end-to-end process on their behalf.
What have you seen or experienced in the green space that made you realise this is the place you want to be?
Seeing solar-powered refrigerators in action opened my eyes to the wide range of possibilities with renewable energy. It sparked a real excitement for the field. It also helped me balance work with motherhood. The hours are flexible. Now, I can earn a living and still be there for my boys. It’s a dream I didn’t think was possible.
From the beauty industry to installing solar, how was the transition?
Not without hurdles. Rooftop installations initially triggered a fear of heights, but I pushed through. The support I’ve received from my colleagues has been incredible. Every challenge has been a stepping stone to growth.
What do you hope for in the future?
I want to become a solar consultant and educator, leveraging my technical expertise and communication skills to design tailored energy solutions while inspiring others to join the sector. I want to show people that renewable energy isn’t just about technical skills, it’s about creating a better future for everyone.
My final advice to fellow professionals: Be open, be bold, and view challenges as opportunities. There’s so much potential in renewable energy, and there’s room for all of us.
