In today’s newsletter: How can I get a head start in the climate field?

I’ve put together a list of open fellowships you can apply to. This is your chance to step into the space.

• The Earth Prize
  Through The Earth Prize competition, students are inspired, educated, mentored, and empowered to solve environmental sustainability challenges. The initiative aims to nurture the next generation of environmental leaders and innovators, creating a global platform for sharing and scaling their solutions.

• Tech FoundHER Africa Challenge 2025
  This is your opportunity, as a woman tech (co)founder in Africa, to win up to $100,000 in equity-free grants, mentorship, and visibility to accelerate your business growth.
  We encourage women founders to apply and take the next step in Africa’s innovation story. Applications close at midnight CAT on 30 September 2025.

• Africa Extractives Media Fellowship (Ghana, 2025–2026)
  Are you a journalist passionate about telling Africa’s most important stories? Would you like to deepen your expertise in reporting on mining, oil, gas, climate change, and the future of green minerals?
  Applications close at 23:59 GMT on 30 September 2025.

• The Mercedes-Benz Fellowship
  Open to individuals aged 16–28 who wish to address environmental challenges and who reside in one of the participating countries (and will remain there for the duration of the fellowship).

• Risk Data Fellows
  This six-month work placement programme is designed for climate and disaster risk professionals (e.g. data scientists, geospatial analysts) from selected climate-vulnerable countries. Fellows will work directly with World Bank Operations to access, generate, and communicate climate risk knowledge within their communities.
  The fellowship aims to bridge knowledge gaps by equipping vulnerable countries with the tools, methodologies, and support needed to better understand and share their disaster and climate risk data.

• WWF Russell E. Train Fellowships (2026–2027)
  This competitive fellowship supports the development of a strong cadre of outstanding and well-trained experts, natural and social scientists, as well as practitioners, committed to advancing learning, research, and engagement in conservation science and leadership.

• Princeton in Africa Fellowships (2026–2027)
  The programme is designed to enrich Fellows’ experiences and professional growth on the African continent, while bringing young professionals educated in African institutions into a community of more than 700 alumni worldwide.

• Echoing Green Fellowship
  Echoing Green identifies innovators, mobilisers, community organisers, and social justice leaders with bold plans to create meaningful change. Fellows are supported to grow their impact through access to tools, resources, and a global community of changemakers.

• GreenCape Graduate Trainee Opportunities
  GreenCape is seeking ambitious individuals who are passionate about contributing to the green economy across sub-Saharan Africa. This exciting opportunity allows graduates to apply curiosity and problem-solving skills to real-world challenges, engage with stakeholders, and develop technical expertise as emerging practitioners.
