Hyphen Energy boosting green hydrogen talent in Namibia
Big things are happening in Africa! On the west coast of southern Africa, Namibia is on track to become a global leader in green hydrogen, and that means thousands of new job opportunities for Africans. With abundant sunshine, strong winds, and a clear government strategy, plus political stability and an investor-friendly environment, Namibia is uniquely positioned to produce green hydrogen at scale and a lower cost than most other nations.
But first, what’s the hype about green hydrogen? It’s a clean, renewable energy source made by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity from the sun and wind. And since Germany and the EU are investing heavily in Namibia’s hydrogen industry, the future is looking bright and green!
Why does it matter? Let’s talk about Hyphen Hydrogen Energy. This massive project in Tsau //Khaeb National Park is bringing in a $10 billion investment and is set to produce 300,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, all while slashing global CO₂ emissions by 5–6 million tons per year! What do you think, impressive or just a step in the right direction?
The best part? Hyphen Hydrogen Energy is creating a wave of employment; we’re talking about 15,000 jobs during the construction phase and 3,000 permanent jobs once operations kick off - aiming to fill 90% of these positions with Namibians!
To make sure young professionals land these jobs, Hyphen has teamed up with Hardap and Karas Regional Councils. Together, they’re rolling out training programmes to help locals develop the right skills for this industry.
If you’re in the Hardap or Karas region, this is your moment! Keep an eye out for training opportunities. So, when applications open, jump in, apply, and get ready for a greener, powered-up future!
