Green jobs up, don’t come down, calm down...
Don’t panic, just pivot, where to find the fastest-growing green job markets

Hey,
Welcome to Green Jobs Rising!
Today, we’re diving into hiring trends in the renewable energy and e-mobility sectors across Africa.
Psst… this roundup was lovingly “borrowed” from our sister newsletters: Renewables Rising and Mobility Rising.
Our colleagues did the legwork, digging into who's hiring, where the action is, and which regions are heating up.
Then we “borrowed” it. Thanks Sammy, Ian, Brian & Brian. 🙌
Why should you care? Because knowing where the jobs are growing helps you target your search smartly.
Snapshot: Last week of July
The renewable sector was exploding.
During that week, over 160 green jobs were posted across Africa, reflecting a major surge in hiring activity.
International firms, led by Engie and Scatec, continued to scale their recruitment efforts on the continent.
Both companies were actively involved in off-grid and grid-tied projects across multiple African countries.
Here’s the scoop:
South Africa led the charge, with more than 100 roles in solar, energy storage, and grid engineering. That accounted for nearly two-thirds of all job postings that week.
Kenya and Nigeria were catching up quickly, with new hires in solar design, project management, and ESG (Environmental & Social Governance).
Energy storage and operations & maintenance (O&M) roles also appeared widely across regions, highlighting growing demand for technical and support talent in green infrastructure.
The e-mobility sector showed movement.
It logged 14 new job openings that week.
Notably, Zembo began hiring in Kenya for the first time, likely signaling an expansion strategy following their success in Uganda and a $1 million loan from Dutch development bank, FMO earlier in the month.
Shifts in hiring trends:
Operations, admin, and sales continued to dominate, with seven roles posted.
But here’s the kicker: there was a noticeable rise in demand for tech talent.
Zembo alone posted four tech roles, pointing to a shift toward product and engineering needs.
MAX, West Africa’s e-mobility giant, returned to the hiring scene, recruiting for finance and operations roles after a quiet previous week.
Other active recruiters included Ampersand, M-Kopa, Rubicon, and BYD, reflecting broad-based hiring across the sector.
As my colleagues continue doing the ground green job research, I’ll be right here, happily “borrowing” and sharing it all with you. 😉
Until next time. Cheers!
Africa has the possibility of being the first continent to become a green continent.
