Ethiopia’s plan to build a local EV battery plant is underway - and guess what? This is great news for you.
As Africa embraces EVs, the demand for rechargeable batteries is rising. Ethiopia alone has over 400 companies importing or assembling EVs. Recent figures show the country has more than 100,000 EVs, and the government is aiming to grow this number to 500,000 in the next 10 years.
What This Means
The number of EVs is increasing, and so is the demand for batteries - so who’s going to fill the gap?
Ethiopia’s plan to establish a local EV battery manufacturing industry is to reduce its reliance on imports and support its expanding EV market.
Why It Matters
The EV revolution runs on batteries, our communities need jobs. As more countries adopt the technology, more battery plants will be established on the continent to meet demand. As industries emerge, roles will open up for engineers, technicians, manufacturers, management, and support staff, among others. Excited? So are we! Stay tuned for great things ahead.
