New hire Q&A
Osaremen Odion Ibadin, Assistant Manager at Clean Technology Hub, Abuja, Nigeria
Tell us about your journey and how you ended up in the green sector.
I started in law, but I wasn’t sure where it would lead. During my service year, I faced challenges, especially as a young female Barrister in Nigeria. Gender biases and limited opportunities made it tough. But my love for sustainability kept me going! After I finished my service year, I stumbled upon an opportunity at Clean Technology Hub, and it felt like the perfect place to mix my legal skills with my passion for the environment. It was a leap, but it’s been so worth it!
What’s been the most rewarding part of your work in the renewable energy sector?
Hands down, the chance to make a real difference in sustainability in Nigeria! From carbon market research to training SMEs on decarbonization, my work feels impactful. And to top it off, I’ve grown so much in my career, moving from an executive assistant to leading major projects in the Environment and Climate Action Department. It's amazing to see how far I’ve come.
What’s your journey at Clean Technology Hub been like?
It’s been an exciting rollercoaster! I started as an executive assistant, always looking for ways to jump in and help. That led to some great promotions, first as a junior associate working on carbon markets, then as an associate, and now I’m leading the carbon markets team! Along the way, I’ve been involved in some awesome projects like training SMEs and diving deep into carbon market research. It’s been all about growth and making an impact!
What are your plans for the future?
I’m all about learning! I’m planning to go back to school for a master’s and get more certifications in sustainability. But it’s not just about me, I want to help other women grow, just like Clean Tech Hub helped me. I’m also really passionate about shaping policies in Nigeria to make sustainability a bigger priority. We keep pushing for a greener future!
What advice would you give to young professionals looking to get into the green sector?
Here’s the thing: Don’t hold back! You’ve got the skills to thrive in any field, including sustainability. Be confident, take on new challenges, and find places that help you grow. The green sector is full of opportunities, and no matter the obstacles, you can make a huge impact if you stay focused and passionate!
