The sun rises on clean energy jobs in Côte d’Ivoire

The government of Côte d’Ivoire has just greenlit a massive solar power project, a 50-megawatt (MW) plant that will help the country meet its growing energy needs while reducing its reliance on fossil fuels like natural gas. For a country aiming to double its renewable energy share to 45% by 2030, this is just the beginning.

The solar plant will be built in Katiola, covering 60 hectares and powered by more than 89,000 solar panels. It’s expected to be ready by late 2026. At a total cost of $60 million, the project will be led by Katiola Solar Power, a local arm of Swiss energy company JC Mont-Fort.

The numbers are big, but the impact will be even bigger. This plant will bring clean electricity to homes, schools, and businesses. It will create opportunities for local workers, technicians, and young people interested in the growing green economy. As the construction begins it will open up 160 direct jobs, with another 30 permanent roles once the plant is up and running.

So, why should you care? Because clean energy projects like this aren’t just about powering homes. They’re about launching careers. Whether you're into engineering, construction, project management, or renewable energy tech, this is the kind of project that could shape your next move. Keep your eyes on Katiola, the sun’s not the only thing rising there.
