Seka Jean Blaise: Powering rural healthcare with clean energy

Hey,

Welcome to Green Jobs Rising!

As we spotlight how young professionals across Africa are building the solutions our continent needs, we’re excited to feature this week’s changemaker: Seka Jean Blaise from Cameroon.

Mr. Seka has spoken about growing up displaced in Yaoundé, an experience that shaped his determination to create solutions for vulnerable communities.

He also witnessed the harsh realities of limited access to electricity in his community.

Motivated by these experiences, he set out on a mission to empower young people like himself and drive a transition to clean energy in Cameroon, guided by a vision of energy democracy for rural communities.

One of his most impactful innovations is WiseCool, a solar-powered cold storage unit designed for rural clinics

Solar-powered DeWiseCool storage unit

WiseCool addresses limited healthcare access in the Etoug-Ebe community by providing sustainable cold storage that extends the shelf life of essential medicines from just one day to over 365 days.

This solution ensures continuous access to vital healthcare resources for more than 3,000 inhabitants in an area where electricity supply is unreliable.

Equipped with IoT (internet-connected) sensors, WiseCool enables real-time monitoring of temperature, humidity and energy consumption

This ensures safe and effective storage while helping local health centres save up to 50% on healthcare resources.

In addition, the WiseCool app connects patients directly with doctors, enabling remote consultations and regular check-ups without the burden of long-distance travel.

Beyond WiseCool, Seka is the President and Co-founder of DeWise Foundation, a non-governmental organisation focused on empowering underserved and marginalised communities, including internally displaced persons, by equipping them with skills that promote social and economic independence.

His impact expanded further when he joined a Youth Climate Justice Makerspace at Mboa Hub, where DeWise Energy was born.

DeWise Energy is a startup committed to providing affordable and reliable clean energy solutions to all Cameroonians.

Together with Mboa Hub, they have launched initiatives such as the DeWise Fellowship, which empowers displaced youths to propose solutions to challenges within their communities, and the DeWise–Mboa SunSpark Energy Accelerator Programme, which trains 20 young people each year in clean energy technologies.

That’s Seka Jean Blaise’s story. Do you know someone we should feature? Share their name and work with us.

The spotlight doesn’t stop here 😉. We also featured Seka Jean Blaise on our LinkedIn.
