Hey,

Welcome to Green Jobs Rising!

EarthEnable, a company whose employees we have previously featured, is currently hiring a Safety Officer who will be responsible for promoting a safe working environment across EarthEnable’s construction sites, warehouses, and operational locations.

If you are eying this role or anything similar, here are a few tips the recruiter says you should keep in mind.

  • The recruiter is prioritising candidates with hands-on, practical experience in workplace safety, especially within construction environments.

This means they are not just looking for someone who understands safety in theory, but someone who has actually worked in environments where safety risks are real and visible.

For example, experience conducting site inspections, identifying hazards, participating in safety drills, or supporting safety implementation on construction sites will be highly valuable.

  • You must also be comfortable working on-site and spending significant time in the field rather than in an office. Much of the role involves being present where work is happening, observing processes, identifying risks, and guiding teams in real time.

Confidence and firmness in enforcing safety compliance are essential. The recruiter is looking for someone is willing to speak up when safety standards are not being followed, even when it feels uncomfortable.

Construction teams often work under pressure, and safety procedures can sometimes be overlooked.

The ideal candidate should be able to ensure consistent use of personal protective equipment such as helmets, boots, gloves, and reflective gear, while reinforcing occupational health and safety standards without hesitation.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence others are equally important. You should be able to clearly explain safety expectations, highlight risks, and encourage teams to take safety seriously while maintaining positive working relationships.

A proactive approach to preventing incidents is critical. The recruiter values someone who actively works to prevent problems before they occur rather than only responding after something goes wrong.

This includes identifying risks early, recommending corrective actions, and putting preventive measures in place.

Note: Being organised, observant, and solution-oriented will help you succeed in this area.

  • Finally, the ability to prepare clear and detailed reports is important. When safety issues arise, you should be able to document what happened, why it happened, and what corrective actions need to be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Overall, this role is best suited for someone who enjoys being on the ground, takes safety seriously, and is confident enough to enforce standards while helping teams create a safer working environment.
