Silent signals in Africa’s clean energy sector

Expansion often signals upcoming hiring, who’s expanding now?

Hey,

Welcome to Green Jobs Rising!

Clean energy and transport companies are expanding across Africa, and that growth is opening doors for job seekers.

More projects mean more opportunities for young professionals across the continent.

Here are the companies that expanded in October, with each move signalling an upcoming hiring.

  • Synnefa secures $300,000 grant to deploy IoT solar dryers across Kenya
Kenyan agri-tech startup Synnefa has secured the funding from WRI’s P4G to roll out IoT-enabled solar dryers nationwide, aiming to curb food loss and cut CO₂ from wasted harvests. The project is expected to create youth jobs across device assembly, field installation, maintenance, farmer training, data and IoT support, and last-mile distribution, while stabilising seasonal incomes for smallholders.

  • Kenya’s Enzi Mobility secures $3.5 million investment for e-mobility expansion
Enzi Mobility has raised $3.5 million from Kula PCC to accelerate clean transport solutions across East Africa. The expansion could generate jobs in battery-swapping and charging operations, fleet deployment, rider onboarding, software and telematics support, after-sales service, and local assembly or retrofit partnerships, with additional opportunities for delivery riders and micro-fleet operators.

  • GCF approves $200 million Novastar Ventures fund to accelerate climate-tech innovation across Africa
The Green Climate Fund has approved Novastar’s Africa People & Planet Fund III, a $200 million vehicle to scale climate-tech and sustainable solutions across the continent, and portfolio growth is expected to catalyse high-skill jobs in product development, data science, and operations alongside manufacturing, installation, and field roles across energy, agri-tech, the circular economy, and water resilience.

  • ACWA Power seals $1.45 billion Africa deal
Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power has signed more than $1.45 billion in agreements with IFC and the OPEC Fund to advance clean energy, water, and storage projects across Africa. The pipeline is expected to create construction-phase jobs in EPC, logistics, and HSE, as well as long-term operations and maintenance roles for plant technicians, control-room staff, and local supply-chain services.

  • Kenya seals $800 million deal for green ammonia
China’s Kaishan Group will build a 165.4 MW geothermal-powered plant at Olkaria to produce about 100,000 tons per year of green ammonia and fertilizer, targeting $220–$250 million in annual revenue. The development is expected to create construction and drilling jobs, permanent positions in plant operations, process engineering, safety, and maintenance, plus upstream geothermal services and downstream roles in fertiliser distribution and agronomy support.

  • Alkan Auto launches Arc Fox electric cars in Egypt
Alkan Auto has introduced Arc Fox, its first electric brand, in Egypt, signalling interest in local EV manufacturing. This rollout is expected to expand jobs in EV sales, charging and after-sales service, technician upskilling, and, over time, local assembly, component localisation, and supplier development as manufacturing matures.

  • South Africa: Maxwell+Spark wins $15 million backing for lithium-ion battery expansion
Maxwell+Spark has raised $15 million to scale a unified lithium-ion battery ecosystem for forklifts, refrigerated transport, and backup power. The scale-up is expected to create roles in battery manufacturing and pack assembly, field installation and commissioning, fleet servicing, software and BMS support, and regional distribution with knock-on employment across electrified logistics.

  • Spiro raised $100 million for two-wheel EV & battery-swapping expansion

The funding will accelerate Spiro’s battery-swap network and strengthen its tech platform across existing and new markets. The scale-up is expected to create roles in swap-station rollout and operations, electrical installation and field maintenance, motorcycle assembly, and QA, rider onboarding and customer support, sales/dealer management, and data/telematics and battery-health analytics.

  • Uganda: GOGO Electric gets $1 million EU-backed funding to expand local battery production and e-mobility access

GOGO Electric has secured $1 million from EDFI ElectriFI to boost local battery manufacturing and widen access to swapping and clean two-wheel transport. The expansion is expected to create roles in battery pack assembly and testing, line supervision and EHS, swap-station operations, mobile maintenance and field support, procurement and warehousing and logistics, and community onboarding and customer care.
