What Africa’s green employers are really hiring for right now

Hey,
Welcome to Green Jobs Rising!
This isn’t just a newsletter now, it is a community.
We launched our new website last week.
It’s a platform where you’ll find our job board, social channels, and more ways to connect.
We’ve grown from just a newsletter into a community... a space for young African professionals in sustainability.
check it out, we built it for you!
At least once a month, I get to ‘borrow’ green jobs tracking from our sisters newsletters.
Today is that day.
Wait, are you still wondering how it benefits you?
Reading these trends helps you refine your job search, so you can make smarter moves.
Snapshot: Last week of August.
In the renewables sector by Renewables Rising
South Africa dominated with 134 openings, most of them technical and project-oriented roles such as project managers, engineers, construction leads and operations managers.
Hiring is tied to the country’s growing energy storage and wind projects.
Elsewhere, off-grid providers led recruitment, with M-KOPA hiring 15 roles across four countries and Sun King continues its expansion.
Sales roles are also on the rise as companies seek to reach new customers across the continent.
In Green Hydrogen by Hydrogen Rising
Southern Africa remains the key hub, offering 15 of the 27 available roles, with South Africa accounting for 13 of them.
Positions span both innovation pilots and large-scale projects. AMEA Power is the top recruiter, listing eight roles across multiple African countries.
This highlights its dual role as both a testing ground for hydrogen innovation and a launchpad for large-scale projects.
In the conservation sector by Conservation Rising
Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) roles dominate, advertised by the World Resources Institute, Global Landscapes Forum, WWF and One Acre Fund, signaling the importance of evidence-based results.
Alongside these senior roles, there are also entry-level opportunities through internships and research programmes in wildlife rehabilitation and marine conservation.
Southern and East Africa lead hiring, with WWF offering the highest number of openings.
In climate and health by Healthcare Rising
Kenya led in maternal nutrition, reproductive health and urban resilience roles.
Other countries also reflect rising demand, with positions such as HIV Care and Treatment Assistant in Botswana, Medicines Access Consultant in Nigeria and Healthcare Assistants in Rwanda.
Additional listings in Uganda, Namibia, Malawi and Côte d’Ivoire show the spread of community outreach, diagnostics and patient support roles.
Humanitarian contexts in Sudan and Uganda highlight the need for expanding frontline health capacity as climate risks grow.
Hey, this is your cheat sheet for where to look when it comes to a job search.
