Welcome to Green Jobs Rising!

This week, we spoke about adopting digital skills to help farmers in Africa while also earning.

Today, we’re taking a step further by highlighting some online courses and platforms you can use to upskill.

This list is not exhaustive, it’s meant to guide you toward useful resources, where to find them, and what kind of courses you can take. 

There are many options out there, but here we’ve focused on those you can access without breaking your pockets.

  • IoT Enabled Farming

    Here you’ll discover the revolutionary impact of IoT in agriculture. The course has two modules.

    • Module 1: Introduction to IoT in Agriculture - covers the fundamentals of smart farming, IoT integration, sensor applications, benefits, and challenges.

    • Module 2: IoT Sensors, Devices, and Analytics in Smart Agriculture - focuses on advanced topics such as smart machinery, wireless sensor networks, big data management, and predictive analytics.

    This course will provide you with practical skills and real-world examples to help you optimise farm management, boost productivity, and ensure sustainability.
    However, you need to have a background in one of the following fields: Agriculture or Agronomy, Technology and Engineering, IoT and Networking, Data Analysis and Statistics, Environmental Science, or Computer Science. 

  • Introduction to Agritech: Ecommerce and Mobile Technologies
    This course introduces the possibilities of combining agriculture with digital technologies to create Agritech solutions. As you progress, you will see the need to adopt agritech in your daily farming.
    It was developed by Innovative Youth, and is designed for all actors in the agricultural value chain. 

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Rural Development in Kenya

    This training equips participants with knowledge and skills to apply AI in agriculture, natural resource management, and community development. In the course you’ll learn how AI can:

    • Empower rural communities 

    • Enhance agricultural productivity

    • Promote sustainable development

    Note: This is not a free course unfortunately it is paid, and it is offered on-site.

  • Free Introduction Course to Artificial Intelligence

    This is a free course brought to you by the University of Nairobi, University of Helsinki, and Reaktor, this course covers AI fundamentals. No prior knowledge of computing / experience is required.
    In the end you’ll gain a certificate of proficiency upon completion from the three collaborating partners.
    You’ll also Understand how  AI is used to solve problems in everyday life and how you can apply AI in your career.

  • Artificial Intelligence and Agriculture 

    The course explores how AI is transforming farming practices, from precision agriculture to sustainable crop management, ensuring increased productivity while addressing environmental challenges.
    This beginner-friendly course is open to farmers, agricultural professionals, tech enthusiasts and anyone interested in how AI can enhance modern farming practices.

  • E-Learning on Digital Agriculture

    This course explores Digital Agricultural Technologies (DATs) and their role in enhancing productivity, market access, and climate resilience in the agriculture sector. 
    It provides an overview of key DAT concepts, available technologies, and real-world applications.

  •  AI For Everyone

    This course helps you understand AI concepts and how to apply them in real-world business and organisational contexts.
