This is what real climate leadership looks like

Joshua Amponsem is turning waste into solutions, funding into action, and youth into climate decision-makers

Hey,

Welcome to Green Jobs Rising!

There’s a lot of talk about climate solutions, but at Green Jobs Rising we want to hear more about the people behind them.

Joshua Amponsem is a young person reshaping  climate action and transforming lives. He brings seasoned expertise to climate adaptation, circular economy solutions, disaster risk reduction, and empowering youth-led climate finance.

He is the Co-Director of the Youth Climate Justice Fund and the founder of Green Africa Youth Organisation (GAYO), an active youth-led environmental group on the continent.

He’s also held big roles at the global level. He served as Climate Lead in the UN Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth office, and now, he’s the Co-Chair of Climate Resilience for All’s board.

At GAYO, he leads projects like Zero Waste Accra, which transforms over 30 tonnes of organic waste every month into resources for urban farming.

He also spearheaded the Sustainable Communities Project, which creates green jobs and supports local climate adaptation across sub-Saharan Africa.

In his recent TED Countdown talk, “The absurd inequality of climate work”, he put a spotlight on how most climate funding still ends up in the Global North. Joshua pushes for a future where young people in the Global South aren’t just included, they’re leading.

If you follow Joshua on LinkedIn, you’ll get real insights into how climate funding works (and doesn’t), learn from youth-led impact projects, and stay connected to the voices driving Africa’s green transition.

When we invest in young people and local communities, we invest in a resilient future
