Trend watch: Regenerating the earth

A climate solution restoring the planet and creating jobs

Hey,

Welcome to Green Jobs Rising!

In keeping with the latest in sustainability, what’s new or trending right now that’s likely to employ more professionals? Our focus today: Regenerative Agriculture.

So, what’s the buzz?
Regenerative agriculture is all about restoring soil health, boosting biodiversity, and drawing down carbon. It's both a response to and a solution for climate change, offering sustainable alternatives to conventional farming.

It’s also opening up new pathways for young professionals, driven by rising demand for skills in sustainable land management, agri-tech, climate science, and rural innovation.

Professionals are entering this space through a variety of innovative channels:

  • Agri-tech startups are building soil monitoring tools, drone mapping systems, and AI powered platforms for precision farming.

  • Digital agriculture platforms are enabling regenerative practices through real-time data, remote sensing, and smart decision-making tools.

Some of the in-demand roles include:

  • Agronomic Data Specialists

  • Field Agronomists

  • Regenerative Farming Trainers

  • CSA (Climate-Smart Agriculture) Advisors

  • Soil and Biodiversity Specialists

  • Technical Advisors on sustainability projects

You’ll often find these roles in NGOs, cooperatives, and ag-tech companies, where professionals work directly with farmers to promote methods like composting, agroforestry, cover cropping, and organic inputs.

Programs by One Acre Fund, GIZ, AGRA, AgDevCo among others, are leading the way in regenerative agriculture. offering training, funding, and job placements in projects across Africa.

Meanwhile, funders like the IKEA foundation, though presently focused on projects in East Africa, is part of a larger global effort to embed regenerative principles into supply chains and rural development. Their support contributes to a growing global shift toward more sustainable, equitable, and climate-smart agriculture.
