New hire Q&A
“Being a woman is not something that pushes you backwards. You have to fight for what you want and don’t give up on things you want.”

Q: Can you tell us about how the Tigray War impacted your life and career?
A: The war changed everything for me. In 2022, I lost my job at a copying and printing service, where I was earning 1,500 Ethiopian birr. My family’s financial stability was completely disrupted, and for four months, I was unemployed and uncertain about my future. It was one of the most difficult times in my life.
Q: How did you find the opportunity at CAMS Engineering?
A: I came across a job announcement posted outside the CAMS office gate. At that time, I was desperate for work, and this opportunity felt like a fresh start. I started as a cashier for the farmers in the area, and through hard work, I was promoted to storekeeper while also joining the vermicompost production team.
Q: How has this job changed your life?
A: My salary increased to 4,000 Ethiopian birr - more than twice what I used to earn. This has provided me with financial stability, not just for myself but also for my family. Beyond that, I have learned new skills that I never imagined I would have, like vermicompost and biogas production.
Q: What are your future career aspirations?
A: I want to keep growing at CAMS Engineering while also preparing to start my own business. My journey has taught me that, life will always change, learning and adapting is important but I need to be resilient to see my goals and ambitions to fruition.
Q: What advice do you have for young women trying to build their careers?
A: Being a woman is not something that pushes you backwards. You have to fight for what you want and don’t give up on things you want. Opportunities exist, but you have to be ready to seize them.
Focus on being productive instead of busy.
