Zoomlion’s new waste deals mean 5,000+ jobs ahead
A continental push for sustainability is opening career paths for young professionals in the green sector
Hey 👋
Welcome to Green Jobs Rising!
Ghanaian waste management company Zoomlion is ramping up its presence across Africa, securing a major contract in Lagos, Nigeria, and signing new waste management deals in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Ethiopia. The company continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable waste management and environmental conservation across the continent.
In Nigeria, Zoomlion signed a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement with the Lagos State Government for a waste management and processing concession aimed at transforming the state’s waste landscape.
This collaboration includes the development of two key facilities: a material recovery plant and a waste recycling plant: crucial steps toward integrating Lagos into a modern and sustainable waste management framework.
In the DRC, Zoomlion signed an MoU with the City of Kinshasa to collaborate on the collection, transportation, recovery, and conversion of municipal and other waste types into valuable products. This project is designed to introduce scalable and impactful waste solutions in the Congolese capital.
In Ethiopia, another MoU was signed with the Addis Ababa City Council to establish Integrated Waste Management Infrastructure. The goal? To improve the efficiency of existing waste systems and promote a cleaner, more sustainable city. Zoomlion is set to invest in the development, construction, and operation of Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) for sorting and recycling waste, and to set up compact/mobile transfer loading stations for efficient waste handling.
Why does it matter? Zoomlion’s growing footprint isn’t just a story of environmental innovation, it’s also one of job creation. Each city the company enters brings with it the potential for up to 5,000 direct and indirect jobs, providing meaningful opportunities for local communities and young professionals alike.
As implementation begins, this expansion sends a strong message: Africa’s strong will and unwavering commitment to building a cleaner, greener continent.
As we await further development, if you’re a young professional in Africa eyeing the green sector, watch out for job ads on job boards and career platforms.
